Penelope, Puppy Mill Dog, rescued by Curly Tail Pug Rescue

The healing journey begins...........

Penelope is a quiet, shy, reserved 6 y/o girl who is ever so slightly shell shocked by the idea of a home where hands pat her, feed her and love her. She was rescued by a puppy mill from the wonderful volunteers at Curly Tail Pug Rescue, along with three others. www.curlytailpugrescue.org

Penelope is the world's most gentle pug and she is recovering from a major dental surgery that we had performed only a day after arriving in Curly Tail.

Her mouth and teeth were so infected upon arrival that it was clear she was in great pain. Our vet, Dr Meade, extracted all but two teeth and even with the post operative pain, it was clear she was feeling like a whole new dog immediately. While under anesthesia, she was also spayed. Like the other females, she is recovering from a severe and painful urinary tract infection and is on antibiotics and a temporary special diet to facilitate the recovery.

She has begun crate training and is doing very well by it. She was the first one of the four Curly Tail rescued to stop soiling her own crate--she recognized quickly that she now had the opportunity to keep her safe haven clean and that she would be allowed the opportunity to relieve herself elsewhere. She is such a compliant little girl and is aiming to please her foster mom all the time. She lives for the positive reinforcement and human approval---such an angel.
