After recently having to see my best friend of the the past 15 years cross the bridge, I was heartbroken. Her companion for the past 10 years was as well, so within 2 weeks I was searching for a new furry family member online. I had something specific in mind as far as appearance and age.
I first saw Star at an event I attended to support the local aspca. She was much younger than I was truly looking for and while very unique, not the scruffy terrier I thought I wanted. The adoption of another dog fell through and Star came home to live with us. She has become very close to me and the 5 cats. My older dog is now 12 and finds Star's energy a bit much most of the time.
Currently Star is now right about at the magic 2 yr mark where dogs mellow out a bit. She has an amazingly sweet disposition and adores people. Once we can get our leash manners fixed, I plan on getting her certified as a therapy dog. I'm hoping she can also become an emotional support dog for my boyfriend until we can afford to take on another dog or we have to say goodbye to the older dog.
Star truly is an unexpected treasure.
