Ms Lily

Ms Lily

A few year ago i was volunteering at Aarcs in calgary , alberta. Aarcs stands for alberta animal rescue crew society.
I was volunteering one night and Lily was intaked.
I quite liked her. Shes a short hair gold/ orange cat with eyesthat were each a different color.
However she saw a eye specialist that thought one eye needed to be removed as it could lead to cancet if not.I requested to foster her and approved. I took her to all of her appts on including the day she needed her surgery. I cried as i droppefher off.
Surgery went well and i cared for her. I applied to adopt. AND was aporoved. A foster fail if you will. .
Her having one eye made even more beautiful.

I rescued Otis when he was 5 weeks old. I picked him up he growled at me I knew he was the one. Otis became my son I loved him with all my heart. We were always inseparable. He would go with me everywhere even to work. He was so smart everyone that met him loved him. He had no fear. When Otis was 14yr old he was diagnosed with Kidney failure he passed away in 2017 at 14 1/2yr old. I miss him so much my heart will forever be broken.

My Cookie

My Cookie

Went to Petsmart for some dog food and saw the most beautiful brown puppy. I ended up adopting her from a rescue group that was in Petsmart. Brought he home and everyone loved her. Only problem was she started getting sick after a couple of days. Turns out our beautiful little furbaby was diagnosed with PARVO. I was so scared when I heard this because I read that most puppies dont survive. With LOTS OF LOVE AND CARE, she lived until she was 12 years old. I miss her every day. Such a beautiful animal. We all cried so hard the day Cookie, the brown flat-coated Retriever crossed the Rainbow Bridge. After awhile I adopted another beautiful baby named Lucy. She will never replace Cookie, but she has stolen our hearts. I

Odin's Forever Home

Odin's Forever Home

We were his sixth family. When I went to look at him my husband said, "Just look. Don't bring him home. Remember Pretty Boy (Our Great Dane) has to approve him."
I brought him home. He ran into the house, cleared the table, the counters and every surface in the house, made love to the couch pillow where my husband was watching TV, dumped all my garbage, and tossed the laundry. he was determined to show us how unlovable he was.
The next morning I had anxiety as I came out of the bedroom. What had I done? My house was covered in more than a foot of stuff . I was afraid to face my husband. I looked over to Pretty Boy's mattress in the living room to see Pretty Boy sleeping peacefully with Odin curled up next to him. My husband, an early riser, was on the couch and said, "I don't know why, but I kind of like him." And he's stayed ever since.
I often posted Odin stories on Facebook of his endless antics. Odin-training included herding, obedience and agility. It took Odin over a year to show affection which consisted of draping himself around my neck like a scarf and he weighs over 50 pounds. After a couple years my friends asked why I never post Odin stories that they had come to enjoy. I reply that he's just a normal boring dog now.

Unexpected treasure

Unexpected treasure

After recently having to see my best friend of the the past 15 years cross the bridge, I was heartbroken. Her companion for the past 10 years was as well, so within 2 weeks I was searching for a new furry family member online. I had something specific in mind as far as appearance and age.
I first saw Star at an event I attended to support the local aspca. She was much younger than I was truly looking for and while very unique, not the scruffy terrier I thought I wanted. The adoption of another dog fell through and Star came home to live with us. She has become very close to me and the 5 cats. My older dog is now 12 and finds Star's energy a bit much most of the time.
Currently Star is now right about at the magic 2 yr mark where dogs mellow out a bit. She has an amazingly sweet disposition and adores people. Once we can get our leash manners fixed, I plan on getting her certified as a therapy dog. I'm hoping she can also become an emotional support dog for my boyfriend until we can afford to take on another dog or we have to say goodbye to the older dog.
Star truly is an unexpected treasure.

Went to get a pure German Shepherd. He was big & all black & lovable as can be. My dad said I could go get him. I get to the SPCA & was looking for Jackson. Well i spotted a beautiful Alaskan Husky. She was begging for attention. I had to check Jackson out. He walked me instead of the other way around. He was a strong dog. I put him back & got permission to get the Alaskan Husky. She had a strange name. Once I had her on the leash I was in love. She was hyper & funny. She was a baby at 1 year old. It was over & she came home. I love her more then anything. Dont know the backstory on her but she seems to have been neglected. But now she is spoiled. Loves getting her Rescue Box every month. Would not trade her for anything

My second black kitty.

My second black kitty.

My daughter rescued a black kitten from the pound and I fell in love instantly. You see, three yrs earlier I sent my favorite boy over the rainbow bridge. It broke my heart. He was a black cat that I had named Salem. I thought I'd never have another kitty to call mine again. When I went to live with my daughter, this tiny black kitty just snuggled up to me and melted my heart. I've had him now for 6yrs. He's one of three that have come my babies. Hope to have them around for a long time

Miracle After Miracle

Miracle After Miracle

Have you ever fallen in love to just turn around and have your heart broken? Well, that is how Maddie and my story begins. Maddie must have been about 6 months old when someone left her at a local bank branch in Houston where my son worked. She was there all day long. First, sitting patiently by the front door. Then, sitting at the street corner...just waiting. When he left at the end of the day, she was playing with a piece of styrofoam in front of the branch. He opened the car door, whistled for her, and she came running. I met Maddie a couple of days later and it was love at first sight. She had the biggest ears and you just couldn't help but love her sweet face. The vet checked her out and the poor girl had every parasite from mange to hookworm. Fortuntately, no heartworms nor parvo detected. We needed to keep her in isolation while she got healthy. We began to plan for her to move Grand Prairie where I lived. I just knew she was going to fit in nicely with my 2 Rotties. About a week later, I got a call that Maddie was sick. Little did I know, just how sick she was! After a few vet visits and medication, it was determined that Maddie was safe to be around other dogs so we planned the trip to bring her home. On the drive north, we realized something was really wrong. We headed straight to the 24-hour clinic in Arlington. I had no idea that my heart was about to break. The vet spent no more than 5 minutes with us before advising that Maddie had distemper and the prognosis was not good. There are 3 phases and Maddie was in the third phase where it was affecting her neurologically. I couldn't believe that God would let me fall in love to just have her taken away. Boy, did I pour out my heart to God that night! The next morning, the miracles began! It started with a coworker in Houston who had a sister in North Texas who worked for a vet with a special interest in treating dogs with distemper. Seriously, what are the chances of someone I know in a Houston having a sister in Plano that works for a vet that doesn't just have a special interest in this illness, but has a good success rate!!! Of course, I called the vet and they could see us the next morning! We were there at the crack of dawn and sure enough, God sent us to a vet who believed in prayer. He asked me to leave Maddie with him for a few hours so he could examine her. I came back 4 hours later and he agreed to treat her so long as I understood that if she had a seizure we would have to stop and put her down. I told him that I believed Maddie was a survivor and just needed someone to give her a chance. We went home and immediately started a very rigorous holistic approach and I prayed a lot! Poor Maddie's immune system was so overwhelmed, she couldn't fight off the sarcoptic or demodectic mange. Yes, she had both types! But, she was such a trooper that even though she had huge red splotches all over and was covered in bald spots, her tail always wagged. She was always happy to see people...and she has a happy-waggy tail that makes you smile. It is beautiful when it curls up and you can see the color mix in it! After about 6 months, we got our next miracle. The vet officially declared Maddie a "Distemper Survivor!" As much as this was an answer to prayer, Maddie wasn't fully healed. She was still battling the mange! Slowly, but surely, she eventually conquered those stupid mites! I worried that her fur wouldn't grow back, but God answered yet another prayer. Maddie has the most beautiful, thick coat you could ever want to see. It is so soft and fluffy! People tell me all the time what a beautiful dog she is! We thank God for the miracles and for all the people He brought to our journey and who fought right along side of us. We thank God for all the puppy parents who understood that there was nothing wrong with Maddie and would let her have friends to play with at the dog parks. She loves to run and chase her friends. But the best miracle of all...Maddie and I have celebrated 8 wonderful years together. She is my best friend and helped me get through the loss of both my Rotties to cancer. Yes, God knew I needed Maddie in my life! And she has been one miracle after another!

A broken heart still has room for another kitty.

A broken heart still has room for another kitty.

When I suddenly lost my sweet boy Twinkie a few years ago, my heart shattered. My girl CC was heartbroken, too. She had never been an only fur child. Twinkie could never be replaced, but we could honor his memory by rescuing another kitty in need of a loving furever home. It had been put on my heart to adopt one of the black kitties who are often overlooked. A week later, I met Jellybean. He won my heart immediately, and I took him home the same day. CC was unsure about him at first, but within a couple of days, she was a nurturer to her new kitten brother. We will never forget Twinkie, but that same unbreakable bond can be extended in multiple directions. We are a happy family of four; Twinkie's spirit will always be with us.
