I Found My Forever Home

I Found My Forever Home

My family found me on the PetFinder Site. The minute my family saw me they knew I belonged with them. They had no idea what I had been through. I was saved from an animal shelter in South Carolina. Lake Norman Animal Rescue came and rescued me and kept me safe till I found my forever family. I love sharing the bed with my best friend. ( nine year old boy) I love my family almost as much as they love me!

Elmo has a home!

Elmo has a home!

It starts back 12 years ago when I really wanted a cat and knew there were thousands of animals that needed homes. I went to a nearby shelter and was overwhelmed, like so many people, by the amount of animals needing homes. I had in mind that I wanted an older cat because too many times they are not chosen because they aren't cute little kittens. She was a year old at the time I adopted her. My ex-husband was very abusive, and after having her in that environment for a while, I swore to her she would never be in that atmosphere again. I moved out of that home and into an apartment and met with a guy she absolutely adored. She ran to him! I found she was so energetic and so relaxed with him that I named her Kaylee after someone I knew who died who was just like her! I have truly given her a new lease on life! She used to be so skiddish and today, she runs to everyone she knows! I have a 7 year old son that has been with her since the day he was born. I truly made a difference for Kaylee, she is so loved and gets pampered all the time by me and my family. I can't believe anyone would give her up! In a way I am glad they did because I would never have found her! She is my "princess" and I hope people don't just look for kittens because older cats need a home too! She is now 13 years old and still full of so much life! I have changed her life forever and she truly has changed mine!

A Happy Ending, Gracie of MHWF

A Happy Ending, Gracie of MHWF

Gracie is 1 of 26 horses who were starved and needed rescuing. Gracie was so weak, some thought she wasn't going to make it. Gracie also never felt human touch and was as wild as them come. Upon the first humans touching her, she acted like she was getting an electric shock. After nearing a year of rehabilitation, physical and emotional, Gracie is now healthy, craves human touch and is magically gorgeous. This is a very happy ending for Gracie and she is finally available for adoption and looking for her forever home. River & Whylie

River & Whylie

River and Whylie are not my first adopted animals (I have 2 cats who were also adopted) but they were my husband's. He was VERY hesitant to get shelter dogs when we decided to get a dog, but I was adamant that we would NOT get a dog unless it was from a shelter. He relented (he really wanted a dog!) and so we got River. River was actually the dog that Jason forgot about... it was me who said "we forgot about this guy...let's take a look!" From the first day we had him, Jason was head-over-heels - in fact, he got on board for my "shelter only" policy. 9 months later we wanted another dog and again went to the humane society, where we found Whylie. Again, Jason was hesitant... Whylie knew all his basic commands and Jason was convinced that he knew them wrong and would have to be re-trained. Whylie is such a cool dog.... no "re-training" necessary. Now Whylie's become "his" dog, and River is "my" dog... but they are definitely brothers in every sense of the word. Now neither my husband or myself can imagine life without these wonderful wonderful animals... They truly make life worth living.

My buddy Beau

My buddy Beau

Beau found us in January 2000; my husband was up early and loading up his truck to go fishing, when he turned around there was a young lab sitting on the sidewalk just looking at him. When my husband started back to the house Beau followed him to the door as if he belonged here. I made reports to the animal shelters in our area, but had only one call and the person wasn't able to name the color of his collar correctly so we decided he was ours! We took him to the vet for a check up and shots and I asked how you could ever trim a dogs nails so short, the vet looked at his feet and said they weren't trimmed, they were that short because he had been on the run for a while.....
We had just lost one of our black labs six months earlier and it was as if Midnight sent this young fellow to keep us and our other dog company.
Beau just loves his pool and can't wait for the weather to warm up enough so I fill it up for him to lay around in! Now he is an only dog with five cats to keep him company when we are not home, but I think he is fine with that!

Pit of Love

Pit of Love

Three years ago our beloved pit, Nell, died suddenly from a ruptured heart valve. My heartbroken husband and I despaired of ever finding another dog we would love as much. As soon as we saw a two month-old, bat-eared little bag of bones at our local Animal Care & Control Center some months later, we were goners. Stella is now three and a half years old -- a gentle, loving little powerhouse of muscle and licky kisses who loves her big Golden Retriever brother, Luc. We still miss our Nell every day -- but we know she sent Stella to us.

Louie the junkyard dog

Louie the junkyard dog

Louie was a true junkyard dog. He lived with his street-smart mom and four brothers and they were often left out in the elements to fend for themselves. His name at the junkyard was 'Loser'. When then junkyard closed down all the pups found homes and my sweet Louie came home with me. I tell him how much I love him every day.

Kabo

Kabo

While we were at a remote beach in Mexico, a dog came to me starving and thirsty. He was in horrible shape, so I gave him food and lots of water. Our flight home was the next day. I could not get him out of my mind. I did some research and found a very kind person to go out and find him and bring him to the local shelter. I had him flown up to me after two months of care by the vet in Mexico. I named him Kabo and he is very healthy now. He is the sweetest, smartest, and gentlest dog I have ever met. Our family is in love with him and I think he is pretty happy, too. He will never have to suffer again.

Max and Me

Max and Me

Max is a shepherd mix that a friend found on the side of the road as a puppy. He was headed to our local shelter, but my husband and I rescued him - or should I say he rescued us. Life was never the same at our house. We recently lost Max to stomach bloat. We were able to enjoy Max for a wonderful 11 years. We miss him terribly, and he will live in our hearts forever!

The rescue of Second Chance and Bo

The rescue of Second Chance and Bo

I am a traveling RN and I have worked all across the U.S. over the past 9 years. While on an assignment in Fla, I was told of a standard poodle in need of rescue by a co-worker. I went to a breeder in central Fla and found a white standard poodle who indeed needed a home. I immediately brought the dog to my home, had him groomed and he is now a member of our home. I have never had an animal as loyal as he his to me and our family. Also you will notice the picture has a black standard next to Second Chance. He is also a rescue from Mississippi, needless to say with grown children, our four-legged family members were on our 2007 Christmas card. These dogs are not our first rescues and we will continue to offer our home to more animals in need. Sincerely, Linda, Charles Evans, Bo, Second Chance, Dee-oh-gee, Calico, Haley, Tarbaby, and Buddy (the last 5 are our rescued cats)
