Hard Day Racing

Hard Day Racing

It was a fine day when we adopted our greyhound, Roman, from Greyhound Friends in Hopkinton, MA. As a former racing dog. Roman never lived in a home and at first he just stood in a corner. Had to figure out getting around the table and chairs, using steps. After several weeks Roman blossomed and was a wonderful loving pet. We have a big fenced area in our back yard and he made his own track and ran when he wanted to.

Anya

Anya is my first dog ever. We got her from a shelter 7 years ago; I didn't know how wonderful dogs were - she is an amazing companion. And also a great sailor!

Kai & I

Kai & I

I found Kai on Petfinder on a Monday, after searching rescues and shelters for a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (my favorite breed). He was scheduled for euthanization the following Wednesday. I immediately contacted the Auglaize County Dog Warden who agreed to keep him until Saturday so that I could make the out-of-state trip from Indiana to Ohio to pick him up. After having him home only six days, he became very ill and I rushed him to Animal Emergency where he tested positive for Parvo and heart worm, and was admitted indefinitely into their care. I was sure I was going to lose him. I called constantly to check in and also visited, taking him toys to occupy his time and kissing him through the bars of his cage as I wasn't allowed to let him out. I wanted him to know I was pulling for him and needed him to stay strong and fight off the infection. Three days after being taken in, he had made extensive progress and was sent home to resume his happy ending. Kai is nothing short of a miracle and I believe we were both very blessed and fortunate to have found each other. Not an aggressive Pit Bull in the least; he does have the ability to lick you to death.

Good Things Come in Small Packages

Good Things Come in Small Packages

When Missy 'found' us, she was concealing a secret that became evident a few weeks later - she was pregnant! Although Missy eventually ran away, she left behind five beautiful kittens. We kept two darling girls, Sweet Pea and Gypsy Boots, and found good homes for the others. By the way, we had Missy spayed before she left, so no one else could be surprised!

He Wobbled into My Heart

He Wobbled into My Heart

In 2007, a feral cat and her kittens took up residence on our deck. By late summer she had disappeared and left one kitten to fend for himself. Each time the back door was opened, he would scamper quickly from the cat bed we left out for him and would disappear under the deck. I noticed one day that, when he scampered out of the cat bed, he had to drag himself off the deck with his front claws, his back legs seemingly useless.

We continued to feed him, hoping to get him to trust us enough to let us near enough to capture him to later take to The Humane Society. We didn't think an animal with such an injury would make it out in the wild, especially with the approaching Midwest winter. A week or so later, I noticed he had regained some function of his back legs, and when he left the cat bed to eat, was able to walk, although his coordination was quite poor. His back end did not appear to be communicating with his front end. My mother affectionately referred to him as Wobblybutt.

After many attempts to get closer to him, he finally allowed my mother to briefly touch him. I began to gain his trust also, and finally had him inside exploring our kitchen. As I crouched on all fours, he would stand underneath me, rubbing on my arms, exploring in small increments only to quickly return under me for safety. Needless to say, he never made it to the Humane Society. The vet said his continued coordination issues are from a past cerebral injury, but he otherwise received a clean bill of health. He is now my loving, affectionate, adorable baby boy who seeks out loving whenever he can get it.

MY NOAH!!

MY NOAH!!

When I found Noah at the MSPCA, I had lost my Misty to seizures the month before. My husband and I never could imagine we could love another cat as much as we did Misty but we do. He's a giant purr machine. He weighs in at a healthy 16 pounds. He was given up for whatever reason we don't know. He's the greatest joy in our lives. We can't imagine life without him. As you can see he enjoys a very relaxed life and he deserves it.

Lil'l Ginger and Weedo Sim

Lil'l Ginger and Weedo Sim

We adopted little Ginger from the OC Humane Society and Weedo from a young girl at my husbands work who could no longer keep him.

They love each other like they are brother and sister and keep each other company each day while we are at work.

Ginger is so excited when we come home she jumps & dances around in circles so her nick name is Tiny-dancer and Weedo always runs to get his toy. They do they duty by keeping our yard clear of gophers and other vermin and earn their keep every day!

They have been a wonderful addition to our family and would be lost without their love and attention.

Our Angel

Our Angel

I was born a cat lover and enjoyed their unique personalities and the joy and comfort they had brought me during difficult times. I wanted my children to have their own angel watching out for them and that special bond that only a pet can bring for themselves. Animal Rescue found us a 6 month old white cat that was well on the way to euthanasia. I could not believe that someone would treat an animal with such selfish disregard and would destroy a "pet" because it was no longer a kitten, especiallly a classy lady like this one. The caged amber eyed angora had stains down her face, mites, and the saddest forlorned look on her wee face. I adopted her and we named her Angel. She was not socialized with people properly and was very timid . During a follow up call with Animal Rescue I mentioned this concern with our 'case worker." Dorothy, an elderly cat lover, always had a kitten or two waiting for adoption, mewing into the telephone...told me..." All things in life....do better with love." We were patient with Angel and the children learned not to pursue her, but to wait for her to come to them. Soon, Angel was my daughters shadow, sleeping with her, waiting patiently for her outside the bathroom door. In the morning I had three sets of hungry eyes staring at me over the breakfast counter. Angel with her paws gingerly on the counter sitting up between my daughter and son. I am sure she thought she was human. The kids are mostly grown now and wee Angel is over 12 years old now and only has eyes for my new husband.....providing him with unconditional love......and a special bond.

A second life

A second life

While I was working as a volunteer at our local shelter, Baikia had gotten very sick and was on "death Row". I offered to take him home and try to work with him and get him back on his feet. After 2 weeks he was up and running around and playing with my 7 other cats. He now is up for adoption and doing great. I am looking foreword to getting him a new home and saving another life.

Maddox

Maddox

Maddox was huddled up against the Maddox grave stone on Christmas morning when we got to church. It was cold and wet, and he was still there after church so my daughter fetched him in and brought him home. We should have named him Oliver as he is always stealing food from the bigger dogs, even though there's plenty for everyone. He also loves to sleep in the cats beds. He looks after our older coonhound Blue, helping guide her when she has trouble finding her way. He's still got his fears, only likes lady vets, but loves his yard and family, happy to have a home and always ready to play fetch.
